Man Julian, didnt mean to leave you out!! Thanks for the compliments my friend! Still got the Revell S-boat in "drydock" trying to build up the gumption to finish her out. She could probably be done it a day, but for some reason I am just stalled on itTongue Tied

Wow, thanks for the replies everyone. Defnitely glad this one is off the bench for sure!!!!!

potchip-Yeah, I thought the pe for the mast was just way to thing and knew there was no way it would hold its shape when it came to rigging.

Manny, p38j- just lolBig Smile

TD4438- most of the bends in the railings were just done using a pair of tweezers. I would hold the railings up to where they were to be mounted and get an idea of where the bend was by counting stanchions. Even the curved bends were done using a pair of tweeers. I have to say though ,the kit pe railings worked great and were very prices as to fit all the different lengths. I used some aftermarket railings to supplement the kit ones and they were nice as well. I used Gator Glue for all the pe on this ship and man, I absolutely love this stuff for railings!!!!!!!!!

bondo- thanks man, but I think the Brits beat you to itStick out tongue Maybe my next build will be the Hasegawa Tallboy Lanc in the stash to go with this one, hehe

tigerman-thanks for hanging in for the ride even thought it has been a long one!!!

Kudos on finally finishing her. Looks good from where I'm sitting. Very intricate camo scheme that you pulled off well.

I see you've chosen to use the plastic mast part rather than the PE as well - I thought it wouldn't fit with the rest of the ship, despite being 2 pieces of PE still way too thin compared to the rest. Nice one.

Been one hella long update but this one is pretty much getting put on the shelf and called done. Glad to finally wrap this one up and on to something in a much larger scale, lolStick out tongue. Not sure if the rigging is 100% correct as I just kinda put where I thought it looked right using the box top as a sorta guide. My wifes fine hair was used for riggingDevil. One of the worst parts of the whole build was trying to line up the 3 different layers of decal that make up the swastika on the stern. REEEDICULOUS!!!!! Anyways, it may not be the best rendition of the Tirpitz in this scale but I am pleased with it as a first fully completed 1/700th scale warship. Thanks for peeking and Im open to any and all comments, good or bad!!

Thanks guys!! Except for the superstructure sidewalls, I really like the pe. The railings are pretty sharp, thin enough to get good bends and not fight it like Eduard pe for 700th ships. Your right about the sidewalls, they are a bit to tall and I think they would have been better off just molding the details in styrene (normal styrene, not DS styrene).

Man, those PE railings really do spiff up a ship build. Beautiful work Eric

Building the same. How do you find the kit PE? Foil like thinness..the superstructure sidewall details are at least 0.5mm too big height-wise compared to the kit part...

Mansteins revenge

About time...I'm starting a pool on what gets done first---the Tirpitz or Vance's HO...

Lol, thanks Manny and Eric!! Starting to get a little more motivated and get this one done. Started on the pe railings and decided to paint them after they are attached. This may be a decision that comes back to haunt me but oh well, live and learn!! One thing I will say, this is my first use of Gator Glue for attaching pe and it absolutely rocks!!!!!!!YesYes

YesLooking good...deck color is very nice and the various fittings are coming to life.  Not sure I've ever seen this camo done in 700th scale before...

Well I'm back with an overdue update to this baby. Deck color down and some detail painting on the deck fixtures. Got the primary color on all the secondary and tertiary batteries, will come back with some masking to match the splinter. Getting closer and closer to PE and some rigging on this one, ready to put it away in the books and be done with the old gal!!! Thanks for taking a gander, all comments are welcome!!

I'd leave as is and maybe give the entire ship a dry-brushing with a very soft, wide and flat brush----wipe the paint off until you see none and give it a once-over---gotta make sure you thouroughly get the paint off of the brush first, otherwise you'll ruin the finish---especially in that scale...

Hmmmm...maybe misting would be a better approach, but anything in that scale is gonna be tricky if it isn't done in an extremely subtle way...

Jester75

...Just wondering if I need to knock down the contrast a bit with a mist coat or leave it as is. Thoughts??

Well I'm no ship guy, but I'd be tempted to give it a light misting, if for no other reason than to knock the black down a tad. (Easy for me to say - you'll be doing the work! Big Smile

Looks very good as-is though. Yes

Thanks p38!!

Yes stik, there is something about Manny's statement that seems a "little" sinister....Indifferent

Thanks for the comments, the scheme was a tough one but it really looks cool!! The MM colors that I used are basically flat white for the bow and stern. Flat Gull Gray for the lighter gray and a mixture of about 50/50 flat black/flat gull gray for the darker stripes. Pretty happy with how they came out I guess. Just wondering if I need to knock down the contrast a bit with a mist coat or leave it as is. Thoughts??

Manstein's revenge

I love your Tirpitz and want to drop my tallboy on her...

Something about that just does not sound right...Hmm

Jester, you did one very fine job on that camo pattern! What particular MM colors did you use?

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Yeah, you should definitely check out Gators Masks as that is where I got the precut vinyl mask for this build. Worked great and it wasn't so tacky that it pulled up paint either and I used MM acrylics only.
