...GAY TOE...
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, May 14, 2011 11:05 AM

Just got my Trumpeter 1/144th scale Gato submarine, 1944 fit and all I can utter is, WOW!...I have the REG 1/144th scale U-boat and thought it would be a good companion piece...hull is 26 inches long---even in this scale...

If you have any doubts about the quality of this kit, erase them...even better than the ROG U-boat...very impressive...

I also bought a basic White Ensign PE set for a few minor fittings and the White Ensign gun set as well, which includes very finely rendered replacement deck guns for any version of a Gato you want to reproduce---they are very detailed and molded very cleanly...I think I will be able to get an awesome model outta these three sets...even with all of the sets put together the part count will likely be less than 125 pieces

I'm confused how can a 1/144 scale Gato kit actually be better detail wise to a 1/72 scale Gato kit?Tongue Tied

I believe that he said that the Trumpeter 1/144 Gato is better than the 1/144 ROG Type VII U-Boat, not the 1/72 Gato.

Well, yes and no.  What I said was while I was really impressed with the RoG U-boat in 1/144 scale, I am REALLY impressed with the Trump Gato '44 in the same scale: 1/144.  I never mentioned 72nd scale, which in my opinion is just too big...this MOJO is over two feet long in 1/144th and the detail is incredible, especially when you get a basic PE set and some replacement weapons from White Ensign...Yes

I think it has something to do with the Americanized pronunciation of the Spanish word for cat that the subs are named for...

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

That might be true if the pronounciation was wrong . The word is G A T O with the G A pronounced GA like "ugh"lady GA-GA ! He obviously hasn,t been to SPAIN or MEXICO lately. I know many guys that pronounce them gaytoe. It,s an american thing !  I intentionally murder woids to aggravate folks and this is my fun . So What he said is par for me . The boat he was talking was and is an awesome model . I have the large U-BOAT too, and I don,t know when I,ll get around to building them .  I often wonder why no model manufacturer hasn,t done a cut-away like the see through models or half opening type like the "BOOMER' BOATS ? That would be nice . I still have the small version of the cut-away of U-47 and I will use it to help me do the bigger one !               tankerbuilder             By the way it,s U-BOOTE in joyman !! oops !!

You are correct in that the pronunciation according to Manny's title would be correct only if the word were mis-pronounced. However, had it been title "Gah-Toe" it wouldnt have garnered near as much attention and Manny wouldnt  be chuckling everytime he read the title of this thread on the "Most Recents" list now would he???

Actually in Spanish it is pronounced, gah to. The Ga sounds like in gaga with not quite as hard a sound on the G and the a sounding like ah, while to sounds like tow/toe...
