Gents,

I'm tired of the silly back-and-forth between members. If it continues in this thread, I will delete the entire thing, including the OP's beautiful photos. I don't want to, but I don't have time to deal with it.

Regards, Aaron

mstazz62,

I like your build; I was unaware that the 1/350 Roma had been released. Your build makes me wish that I had the eyesight to model in 1/700 scale again!

Greetings fellow modelers! Thank you all for your replies and kind words! It really is good to have other modelers appreciate my humble skills. I'm gonna post pics of the 1/350th scale version soon, so keep watchin'!

Manstein - The P/E in the kit includes the aircraft derrick, the aircraft mounts, pieces for the stacks, and the radars. All the railings are Tom's Modelworks  I had in the stash. As far as the hull color I've found that the Austria - Hungarian navy (in WWI) as well as the Italian navy used the dark green color. (I've also found some references that the Italians used red as well) It seems that it depended on where the ships were constructed and the time frame as well. I really like the green over the red as it adds more interest to the build. (IMHO). Please don't think I was ignoring your questions, I just have been really busy lately - work ,life, 3 teenagers...

Again thanks for your interest and happy modeling!

I'm not gonna comment anymore on this build until the builder finds time to answer questions posted in the thread about his build...

That 1/350 should be a cupcake compared to the smaller 1/700. Wink

Very well done. Love the candy cane foredeck. LOL Seriously, you did a real good job on her and in such a scale too.

Gotta love those "here I am, bomb me" recognition stripes. If I ever build a battleship, it's going to be Italian, and your Roma will be my benchmark. Well done. The rigging, deck work and weathering all look good.

Outstanding!  Did the Italians use a different kind of primer for their hulls...???

Greetings fellow modelers! Wow - thank you gentlemen for the replies and encouragement! Well, she's all done! May I present Trumpeter's 1/700 scale RN Roma:

Man, I had fun with this build - although the paint scheme was a challenge. In fact I'm doing it again - in 1/350th this time! Another WIP to follow soon!

Thanks for lookin' and happy modeling!

Greetings fellow modelers! I've been working away on this kit and I thought I'd share my progress with you guys. Starting with the hull which is split at the waterline in typical Trumpeter fashion I encountered typical Trumpeter fit problems. Sanding sticks to the rescue:

I masked the bow stripes with very thin strips of Tamiya tape - love that stuff!. As the deck was drying I masked the hull for the camo pattern:

Deck and hull fitted:

Next I began the main batteries. I painted, washed and dry brushed the turrets after assembly, and the added the life rafts:

Mounted on their barbettes:

The upper works were next. I got the stacks and bridge layers assembled, painted, and washed then attached them to the deck:

Moving my way up more details were added. Platforms, gun tubs, searchlights, etc.. were added. I also started the rigging:

I got the base plate done as well:

Here is the upper works glued on to the hull:

That's it for tonight but there's lots left to do. Thanks for lookin' and happy modeling!

Mark
