I built this model and it probably the most detailed I have ever built so far.

I didn't know the 47 kit was that old as the 99 kit has been going a while. I first built one about 15/20 years ago. But at the time i was just a very basic painter. That kit is long gone so i decided to try it again. And i thought it would make a good practice piece for painting and weathering before i do the 72nd boat.

Its given me a bit of an idea actually, to have the U-47 and 99 flanking the larger U-552 boat.

A nice idea to give it to your grandson. I'm sure he will love it.

Yep. That's the same model. The old kit is kind of clunky when compared to the more recent ones such as the U-99. I didn't especially need the interior cutaway version, but found the old box in my attic and decided it was better than nothing. Kind of toy-like reflecting the earlier Revell standard of tooling and casting, etc. I may decide to finish it as is and give  it to my seven-year-old grandson for a Christmas gift and get the U-99 kit for myself.

Ye, just found some nice pics of built up kits, including this one on ARC of all places which i assume is the same one.

I found a couple of these on E-bay, might have to add one to the other two U-boat kits i have.

I haven't painted mine yet, was waiting on the deck railings. But here's one on the modelwarships.com website from five years ago that shows you what I mean.

O well, just a thought. I got the 99 kit a few weeks ago, but not sure of any differance in different boats without checking referances. I haven't seen the 47 kit and hope you will share some pics when you can.

Hmm. Just checked out some listings for the U-99. There are some differences, mainly  having to do with the fact that the 99, being a later mark, had the "winter garden" flak mounting at the aft portion of the conning tower, whereas the 47 had the flak gun mounted on the deck, aft of the conning tower. So the rails flanking the flak gun on the 47 were separate and detached from the forward railings alongside the main deck gun. On the 99, the railings are a single unit. I suppose in a pinch I could  use the 99's railings or even snip them and remount the aft section closer to the stern. I sent off an email to Revell and will see what they can offer. Maybe they'd have the U-99 railing sprue in any event.

Do you know if the U-47 kit is the same as the U-99 kit. They were both VIIB's and the U-99 kit is still around. I'm not sure if they both have the same parts you are after.

Thanks Bish. It didn't occur to me. I kind of inherited the old kit and didn't buy it new but I suppose Revell might have some stocks of odd parts lying about. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the advice.

Have you tried contacting Revell direct. I seem to recall from what others have said on here that they are pretty good at replaceing parts.

Help! Need deck railing parts for Revell 1/125 U-47
Posted by Modelshipnut on Thursday, December 15, 2011 9:06 AM

Holiday greetings to all. I have a small problem. I found an old box with 99% of the parts to assemble the

Revell 1/125 scale U-47 with interior. I put it together and now find that I lack the deck railings. These are kind of unique to the U-47 as they consist of a forward section alongside the main deck gun and a smaller section behind the conning tower running alongside the deck mounted flak gun. Later models of the VIIB as well as the VIIC had the flak gun mounted in a winter garden at the rear of the conning tower. I don't want to have to buy a whole new kit just for the missing deck railings. Does anyone know of a source for these missing parts?

I suppose I could display the model without them, but the early VIIB looks kind of naked sans rails.

Thanks for any help.
