i am considering scratch building a twin turreted Monitor type ironclad.Can you recommend any good reference web sites that will provide good photos and dimensions?
I think Ships in Scale had an article on a twin turret monitor about six months to a year ago, and the article did have drawings included.

I found a blueprint of the uss Monadock which was a union twin turreted ironclad on navalresources.org that should allow me to prepare assembly drawings.

I agree! Bluejacket makes the original Momitor and the C.S.S. Virginia but they are very pricey.
I cut the deck out of a sheet of .80 styrene and drillled the holes for the turrets,stacks and ventilators.The deck is yellow and blue because i get signs printed on thick styrene at work that would otherwise be thrown away Saves me a ton of cash!.
Cut out the sides and glued them on.Multi-stage clamping and relief cuts are the order of the day!

This is looking good. I would start a new thread called "My twin turret monitor WIP" or some such.
What is the scale ?
I may do that!I am making the turrets now and I think they will look super cvool if I can execute my ideas!
I decided to thermoform the turret sides by dipping the strip in hot water.I will see if this technique will work.
I couldn't use the thinner plastic because ir kept breaking at the gun ports.So I had to cut the strip out .80 styrene and drill the gun and rivet holes.It was necessary to dip in boiling water to form it here it is with the rivets installed.
Here it is painted.i think i will use it as a master a cast another.

I like it. Although I think your rivets are a bit too large and few for the scale. Keep at it!

Truly tho, and here's where the mods kick me. It looks good, but all the way around there's room for improvement.

Here's the thing. You've demonstrated the initiative to make something really unique, and so far the basics are good. But really study what the scant available etchings etc. show you, and go slowly. Stop often to look at whether what you are doing really satisfies you. Ships are funny as has been noted by others. They take long enough to build that they include a significant section of the "learning curve".

I thought this would be relatively easy but it is proving much more work than anticipated(with a lot more to go)OH well I guess i'll just soldier on and see how it turns out.. I don't think the end result will be very accurate but at least it will look like a cival-war era ironclad.
I engraved lines in .10 styrene and plated the hull.
Put on some primer.
