Installed the cannon into the turrete.I made a simple 3 piece gun platform and used a round stone in myDdremel to carve a trench for the barrels. The guns were installed from the front with epoxy.

I decided to forego ordering a resin casting kit and instead construct a second turret.I cut out the strip, drew the index lines for the rivets and cut the cannon holes.I then drilled the rivet holes with a micro-drill chucked in my Dremel.I readied the form which consists of 2 styrene discs joined by a length of tubing.I dipped the strip in boiling water several times until it fit on the form.To achieve the final shape i affixed the strip to the form with a doubled hair scrunchy.I put it in the boiling water for 10 seconds and rolled it on the cutting board until the sides met in the back.i trimmed and installed the rivets, cut out and installed the turret top, primered and painted it.I am pleased with the results of my nocturnal  modeling session last night.

Fabrigated the bosses for the stacks.i cut a square piece of .80 styrene and draw a circle of the appropriate diameter with a circle template.I the drill a 1/16 hole in the center and chuck in the mototool utilizing the disc mandrel.I cut the corner with tin snips and hold the spinning disc against a coarse sanding drum until it is perfectly round.I remove it from the mandrel and drill progressively larger holes until the correct inside diameter is achieved.Sometimes i have to use the small sanding drom or shaped stones to do this.I put the .60 drill bit in the moto tool to drill the holers for the rivets.I epoxy the ring to the deck and drill through the rings into the deck for a strong structural bond.

Painted the deck today.I decided that the straight black was boring so I cut out some squares on .10 styrene and airbrushed very dark gray. I like the result.

I thought this would be relatively easy but it is proving much more work than anticipated(with a lot more to go)OH well I guess i'll just soldier on and see how it turns out.. I don't think the end result will be very accurate but at least it will look like a cival-war era ironclad.

subfixer

I like it. Although I think your rivets are a bit too large and few for the scale. Keep at it!

Wut Gus is sayin' is there's no rivets on trivets...

Truly tho, and here's where the mods kick me. It looks good, but all the way around there's room for improvement.

Wait. I'm not a mean person.

Here's the thing. You've demonstrated the initiative to make something really unique, and so far the basics are good. But really study what the scant available etchings etc. show you, and go slowly. Stop often to look at whether what you are doing really satisfies you. Ships are funny as has been noted by others. They take long enough to build that they include a significant section of the "learning curve".

Love what you are doing.

I couldn't use the thinner plastic because ir kept breaking at the gun ports. So I had to cut the strip out .80 styrene and drill the gun and rivet holes. It was necessary to dip in boiling water to form it here it is with the rivets installed.

I decided to thermoform the turret sides by dipping the strip in hot water.I will see if this technique will work.
