The PE part numbers are etched into the sheet.  However, that only helps if the part number is called out in the instructions.  Only about half of the ladders seem to be shown on the instructions.  The ones that are shown present no problems- it is the ones not called out that I will have to make guesses for.

And yes, the quality of the instructions on PE certainly varies widely, with GMM and Tom's offerings having the best instructions, as far as I am concerned.

I'm not familiar with that set, but I have seen this solved in a number of ways.

Sometimes there's a fret map that has the pieces numbered, if not on the fret.

Sometimes those numbers match the kit part numbers.

Sometimes there's a scrap of paper that gives a conversion chart for fret numbers/ part numbers.

Or like you say, you may have to just guess.

If you do and are successful, do share.

Makes GMM look pretty good, eh?

While I still think the Pontos set is really nice, I have discovered one problem.  The kit, as I mentioned before, has 600 or more pieces, and the instructions call out far fewer than that- they only call out the most important items.  While a few of the ladders (the ones on the turrets and the ones to the bridge) are identified, this leaves most ladders unaccounted for. I have emailed Pontos twice, but so far have had no response.  Has anyone else found a way to identify the ladders?  My fallback is to measure both the kit ladders and the Pontos ones.  That isn't the perfect solution, but is the best I can come up with at the moment.  I can see by their shape what most of the PE parts are, but one ladder looks pretty much like another :-(
