There is a great book, The Wester Rivers Steamboat Cyclopedia, by Alan Bates, that details construction and details of paddle steamers used on western rivers (Mississippi, Missouri, and such). This may allow you to add detail not included in the kit.

Specifically, it's a 'sternwheel steamer,' or simply a 'sternwheeler.' Google those, and you should be on your way.

You'll have to be more specific about which ship. I suspect there were dozens of ships around with that name. I assume it was a passenger liner on one of the rivers, is that correct? Not familiar with the ship, but for reference look for any of the southern university history departments that have ship info archives.
