Finished Fnally, it's hard to rig incorrectly KNOWING how to, but due to contraints you can't. I don't know how many times I had to correct myself on this one. The origectly modeler did not rig it correctly and I was simply repairing broken sections, cleaning and replicating.

I'll need to use a mirror, I'm not going to be able to remove it from the stand, I'll let you know.  You did not by chance put those slats of tealk for the ratlines did you? Because if so........we need to talk buddy ;)

Hi JAKE :

Please do me a favor . Turn the model on it's side .Is there a G.J.G. on the keel ? dead center ? That looks like a model I may have worked on too .     Tankerbuilder

The line is plain jane regular knitting string. once you run it through bees wax it takes on a beautiful quality and does indeed look like rope.  I used the same material for the heavy forstays on the recently completed USS Constitution - in black.  They make several colors and you can get it at Wal-mart, Hobby Lobby, Jo-Anns etc.

Looking great Jake. What kind of line are you using? It really looks like rope.

Some updates. Getting a new section of deck to match any model is always the main challenge. A few tried and true techniques I've learnee over the past 30 years come in handy. The pictures below show the work in progress.

I've seen ships built like that for sale at the N.J. Shore and up in New England selling at outlandish prices. I always thought that the builder could have put a little extra work in them to justify the price. Know you'll do a great job.

This one is courtesy of a vacation souvenir brought back from some Caribbean trip from about 30 years ago by A customer.  20 years of dust, dirt, grime, plus broken and missing parts. A total strip down and re-rig.

Except I’ll be using hand tied ratlines vs. the slates of teak.  So far I’ve managed to strip off the older poop deck, had to flush cut the mizzen-mast (only way to remove it). The rigging with be the same type of knitting material except waxed and the proper darker color. The rig in simplicity itself, and there are NO block and tackle.  I’ve posted a few pictures.
