Musashi Wreck - - Re - "Great Stuff ."

I had a can where the nozzle popped off and it started gushing all over the place.  What was supposed to be a small cavity in the foundation to be filled in ended up being an entire flower bed, my gas meter, and my left arm being devoured by the big yellow blob.  That stuff burns the eyes as it sets up.

Good thing I had gloves and a long sleeved shirt or else I would have have had lost all the hair and at least the first two layers of skin to get the crap off.  I could feel the heat and pressure of the stuff on my arm as it activated, feeling like having your arm eaten by a big snake, and it took a better part of an hour to cut my shirt and glove off.

We used it in building tunnel hull RC racing boats, but got wise and used the expanding foam for new casement windows.  This is the "white" stuff that is much less aggressive when it expands.  I watched too many boat hulls explode using the yellow stuff.

And if that infernal stuff dries on your skin, you're in for several days of picking it off.

If I had my way, Great Stuff would be banned. But I guess it does have some constructive uses - for people who have experience using it. If nothing else, the cans ought to carry warning labels: WARNING: The contents of this can will expand to 100 times their current size."

The parallel was drawn on that other thread between Great Stuff and The Blob. I think they're related.

This is the strangest timing. Been following the conversation in the wreck thread, didn't want to hijack that thread with my own story. But now......

I had the same experience as mentioned in the other thread. Few years back, Orkin guy told me to foam some holes. What a mess I made.

But the great timing irony is I just installed a new zillion cfm cook-top exhaust hood, and I'm losing some air back into the house. Bought a can of Great Stuff last week to try it on the leaking sheet metal ductwork. Just the other day the boss asked me why I buy stuff then don't use it.

What she doesn't know is I'm afraid of making a horrid mess. Imagine my surprise when the discussion started in the other thread, with my can of the stuff staring me in the face on the kitchen island.

That's a real mess of a situation you had, TB.

It sneaks up on you. Just when you think It's finished and you turn off the lights to come back it tomorrow, it grows twice the size. It waits for you to turn your back.
