Progress on a large project such as this one always takes a lot of time. From what I see you're doing marvelous building here.

On a light note, I noticed that in your post back in October your little tug really gets around! Big Smile. What kit are you going to use for the tug or is it scratch built? I used a nice little kit back when I did a Liberty Ship for a friend of mine. See here:

Twenty years difference though. I wonder what tug kits are available in 1/350 for your carrier?

Did not like the kit horns so I made new ones. Hull is done just needs small things and a heavy wash. Hangar Bay deck needs decals and also the bulkheads.Start on the airwing and equipment this weekend.

large plastic sheet from TAP plastic for the deck. It cost me about 15.00 for 3x2 piece. The bulkheads Evergreen plastic. About 15.00 for what I needed. Hopes that answer your questions.

How did you form the hanger deck?  I have the kit but struggling with how to create.  I'm thinking about heavy card stock, cut - fit, trim - fit, etc.  Beautiful job!

Thank You for the kind words! Building 3 Supercarriers at the same time is krazy.

Awesome project! I scratchbuilt the details for the early Enterprise some 20 odd years ago. I think I used a piece of 1/32 F-15 radome for the beehive housing. The biggest pain in the rear was making all of the life raft buckets. I didn't know how to resin cast back then, but that would save you a whole lot of time. Make one and cast the rest! The Shapeways beehive looks really nice. Good luck with the project!

I was assigned to the Enterprise in 1992 when it was going through a major overhaul in Newport News Shipbuilding. I drove up and down the street looking for the damned beehive so I could figure out where the boat was berthed. Little did I know that the beehive went away years earlier!

I was thinking to myself looking at photos of BigE when she had that fire. Nobody has done a 1/350 model showing her after the fire. I will let you known what I will do.

Did the Tamiya Big E ever come with the B-hive? I'd swear back in the day I remember it having the old radar array...

Hey Stikpusher !
Now I realize why my Mom and Grandma looked so tall ! Especially when there's a 63-64 Buick Riv behind them ! Somewhere between heels and hair was a normal sized woman . Oh ! , that's right , we be talking about the Enterprise , Sorry .

A friend of mine was a Naval Aviator who was on her from March 1965.Served until 1969, including through the fire and before that at Yankee Station.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
