Submarines are what I really like. This is my 4th.  I appreciate any constructive critiques from the expert ship builders here!

Second place, that's cool!! Yes

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Having done one myself,I rather like them too. Checked the photos on Bucket, nicely done on the weathering and details. Should've been 1st.

Seeing this one and with what MC does, I am in trouble with the GB later.  Nothing I can add to help on her.

This is the same kit that goes back to the 1970s? There is also the cutaway version?

I'm not sure of the '70s - I think the kit box had been dated '88. Worth noting is that the Revell box read U-505 whioch was totally wrong sinces its teh wrong design. 505 was a XIC not a VIIC.

No cutaway version of this one that I know of.

The 1/125 scale u-47 was the cutaway. The 1/125 scale u-99 was the same as this. Later reboxed as the U-505. Not to be confused with the Aurora one sold at the Chicago Museum housing U-505. That one was 1/209.

If you have never been through the 505, go up to Museum of Science and Industy in Chicago. Well worth the tour through her.

I went through her as a kid of 14-15 when Mom sent me back to visit the aunts and uncles in that area in '68 or so.  Man what a cramped boat even for a kid my size then.  At 6' plus now and 200 lbs, I almost wonder if I could navigate through her now.

You are right on! I've been many times - live in Moline IL - 3 hours from the museum. 1st trip prolly 1959-60ish when the boat sat out side and then most recently 2008 after the museum built a building extension to house 505 and moved her inside totally restored.  Very cool indeed. Lottsa photos on the Museum of Science & Industry, Chicago.
