Looking into buying a warship...

I was just wondering, what does a Guinness Beer tanker look like? If it looks like a large beer can it might be fun acquiring the materials needed to scatch build one...

In my experience, a 1/350 carrier or battleship, in particular a Trumpeter kit of same, has 1000's of parts ( more or less) and takes a long time to build. But by all means when one comes along on a sale for less than $ 100, snap it up.

Given your preference of subject and experience with larger scales, take a look at the new Revell 1/144 Snowberry.

I'd love to build one, if all those aircraft carriers were not already in the queue...

Ship models are pretty fun to build.

I have built ships from both manufactures and I agree with Don, it depends on how much you want to put into it. I have both kits on my wish list, in fact I had the Tam POW with GMM PE at one time and sold it , man I wish I had that kit now!!!

Trumpy kit will usually come with some PE, just enough to make you want to get more.
Both kits will make a fine display.
It comes down to how much time and money you are willing to invest.

Your choice of subject will determine the manufacturer. As for a 1/350 scale KGV Class, IIRC, Tamiya's is the only game in town.

One thing about Trumpeter is that they often make a structure, like a deckhouse, in multiple pieces, whereas other mfgs might make it in one piece.  This can make it more accurate, eliminating casting relief angles where you might not want them.  However, it does increase the parts count, and building time.

In general, actually, almost any ship model is more of a longer build than other genres, and it takes more patience.  If you are willing to put in whatever time it takes, I'd say go with the Trumpeter.

Also, for warship kits, recent Zvesda models have awesome casting quality.  Just be sure you get one of their more recent offerings.  Their Dreadnaught is awesome!

  If you really want unusual , and British , Why don't you buy the Nelson or the Rodney ? The rearward deckhouses and unusual gun layout sets them apart .  T.B.

The Tamiya kit is old. Newer kits far surpass it in detailing. I can't speak for the fit and finish, never having built it. I built the Trumpeter 1/350 Warspite recently and was generally impressed with it.
