Help needed - simple kit of Captain Cook's HMB Endeavour
Posted by dpdelhoyo on Friday, October 28, 2016 5:37 PM

Hi fellows! My kid wants to build as 1st ship kit a model of Cook's Endeavour, and for a school project. For a novice, i thought a simple plastic kit would be ok.

Being such a significant ship, i was appalled when several online searches only returned the old Airfix 1/120, discontinued one. All ther rest semm to be large, complex wooden kits.

Am i missing something, or no other plastic kits of Endeavour ever existed? Please your guidance is much appreciated!

To my knowledge, the Airfix kit is the only plastic Endeavor ever released. There are several wood kits, but they're all pretty sophisticated - and expensive.

This is just the way it works in the tiny world of plastic sailing ship kits. It's rare for any ship to be kitted more than once (though it does happen).

Could your son be interested in the Bounty?

John is correct; the Airfix kit is the only plastic model of the Endeavor.  It is a nice kit that is simple enough that your son could probably build it with good results.  And, having been rereleased last year, it should still be reasonably priced and readily available.

Thanks jtilley. My kid may be interested in Bounty as long as can be connected to aussie history, endeavour was to be central to this term's lessons. ☺ is there a small, simple plastic kit of bounty?

Hi Bill, didn't know it had been rereleased. Can't find airfix kit anywhere, online or in store; pls share any leads you may know. Cheers, Diego.

The old Revell Bounty is still pretty widely available. It's the sort of kit that can be simple or challenging, depending on what you want the finished product to look like.

Good luck.

Indirectly. Her Captain, William Bligh, was the fourth Governor of New South Wales, post his experiences on the Bounty

Diego,

I will search for one.  It should be relatively simple to find.

I have the Airfix kit in my stash, hope to get it on the bench in about three months or so.  From what I can see, it is a pretty nice kit and I am looking forward to starting the build.

Well, an alternative may be the paper model by "Shipyard", but maybe too complex..

Probably the easiest and best option would be the Airfix kit though.

I have a friend who is also a History teacher in my school.  He is willing to donate this kit. Please email me or message me with your address and I will have it sent immediately.
