I ordered the 1/350 Trumpeter offering from Squadron ($135 delivered to the door off of their flyer) just to have the oddity in the collection, and mate it upwith Dragon's '43 Scharnhorst. Showed up in the mail today in perfect condition, despite the USPS penchant for punting boxes from one truck to another.
By the figures on the box, length is 29 1/2 inches with a beam of 3 1/2 inches. Hull is 2 piece, down the centerline, with a separate box hanger deck. If you like portholes, you will love it. Seems like every compartment has at least two, so everyone has a nice view. The AA stuff looks very nice, and delicate in the smaller calibers. The sprues look to have virtually no flash at all that I can see.
Lots of cursing material included (referring to PE), radars, boat davits, etc., and enough railing to make a safety walk to the moon. The upside is it looks like all the railings are already cut to length, and most are straight runs, not a whole lot of bending required.
28 page instruction booklet, all in B&W, with 48 steps. Looks to be fairly easy to follow, but some of the PE locations are going to be fun to put in place without some test fitting and one eye on the model and the other on the book.
Paint callouts are for a three color splinter camo job, with flight deck one color of gray, and the elevators another (nice aim points for the dive bombers). Color sheet is in color. No color given for the hanger deck though. Paint numbers given the usual for Trumpter, MM, Tamiya, Vallejo, Humbrol, and Mr. Hobby. Separate paint sheet diagram with port and starboard views, along with top view. Schemes are also given for the Ar-195's, Bf-109T's, Ju-87's, and the Fi-167's included in the kit (5 of each).
If you have an interest in doing a German "what if" task force, would not hesitate to get her.
