Right, got ur. I think i might go with a scheme similar to that on the box, one of the things i like about what if's. I am hoping tehre will be a wooden deck out before to long, but it wil be a while before i buld it, got a couple of other naval kits to do first. Loking forward to geting hold of it, i have not got any Trump ships, all my others are Revell.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Bish-  Absolutely no detail in the hanger deck box, and is fully enclosed and can't be seen.

Is more to add structure to the hull than anything else.  Lot of ejection pin marks to deal with in the side openings on the hanger deck box to the hull, but looks like most will have something over them like boats, etc.

GM- Have to agree on the paint scheme.  Thinking I'll do her in gray, along with Scharnhorst the same.  Flight deck doesn't have much planking detail, so don't know where I'll go with it yet.  The box looks to be thick enough to avoid warping, but good to know and watch for.

That's pretty cool for sure.

Theres a review in shipmodel, about the only negative is pin marks in the recesses at the hangar decks.

I've had big problems on two Trumpeter carriers with those walls in there warping. It helps to add bracing.

I see there's a book from Poland that gets ref'D a lot, by S. Breyer. Look on eBay if you are interested.

To me the paint scheme is pure fantasy. They renderings in the book suggest overall Gray, but thats a matter of choice. I do think you are correct about the elevators, they ought to match the deck.

Id be tempted to have the deck be teak, like their battleships.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Thanks GH. It still hasn't landed in the UK yet, hopefully next weekend. Is there much detail in the hanger and if so, can it be seen.

Graf Zeppelin - quick review

I ordered the 1/350 Trumpeter offering from Squadron ($135 delivered to the door off of their flyer) just to have the oddity in the collection, and mate it upwith Dragon's '43 Scharnhorst.  Showed up in the mail today in perfect condition, despite the USPS penchant for punting boxes from one truck to another.

By the figures on the box, length is 29 1/2 inches with a beam of 3 1/2 inches.  Hull is 2 piece, down the centerline, with a separate box hanger deck. If you like portholes, you will love it.  Seems like every compartment has at least two, so everyone has a nice view.  The AA stuff looks very nice, and delicate in the smaller calibers.  The sprues look to have virtually no flash at all that I can see.

Lots of cursing material included (referring to PE), radars, boat davits, etc., and enough railing to make a safety walk to the moon. The upside is it looks like all the railings are already cut to length, and most are straight runs, not a whole lot of bending required.

28 page instruction booklet, all in B&W, with 48 steps. Looks to be fairly easy to follow, but some of the PE locations are going to be fun to put in place without some test fitting and one eye on the model and the other on the book.

Paint callouts are for a three color splinter camo job, with flight deck one color of gray, and the elevators another (nice aim points for the dive bombers). Color sheet is in color.  No color given for the hanger deck though.  Paint numbers given the usual for Trumpter, MM, Tamiya, Vallejo, Humbrol, and Mr. Hobby.  Separate paint sheet diagram with port and starboard views, along with top view.  Schemes are also given for the Ar-195's, Bf-109T's, Ju-87's, and the Fi-167's included in the kit (5 of each).

If you have an interest in doing a German "what if" task force, would not hesitate to get her.
