Tamiya 1/350 Yamato Old Tooling Detail sets
Posted by Col. Hogan on Monday, September 25, 2017 12:57 PM

I've been wanting to tackle this build for a while, but just couldnt bring myself to pay for the premium edition kit after I priced the whole build out.  Does anybody make detail sets for the old tooling version of the ship?  This is the part number that ends in 30.  I am mainly looking for a wooden deck, as well as photoetch for railings and cranes.

That must be kit 78030 from 2013 with new parts based on the new tooling from 1979.  I am in the process of building kit 78031.  You can get detail sets from Eduards, Gold Metal Models and Toms Models.  Plus decking from Artwox and other vendors and barrels from Master or RB.

I know you can just purchase the railings for this kit, I believe Eduards sells it or it maybe Tamiya.  I haven't seen any offers with just cranes but there maybe generic being offered at online stores or e-bay.

Pontos and Lion Roar make some unbleavable sets but I don't know if you wanted to drop over $200 for a Lion Roar set. Like Marcus said, Artwox and Pontos make a wood deck for it.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
