  Help me GM, what's a nannybot?  Also here is a neat pic I forgot to send.

Nannybot checks for what she thinks are questionable words and washes out your mouth with a bar of Ivory, just like Mom did back when.

That will be beautiful when you get her done.

Gene, this is a thread I'm going to subscribe to since I have both the Spanish Galleon and the Golden Hind/Pelican (1/100 and 1/70 scale respectively) in my stash. I know I'll learn a lot from following your build(s).

Yeah, my Mom was a saint, she could have used lye soap or that old gritty pumice stuff.  But none of them did much for the taste buds.

Going to keep an eye on this one as well as some of the Victory's.  Got the old Heller 1/100 in the stash, but don't have the guts or the talent to start her.

this is a model that must be finished gene , your colours are beautiful , would love to see it finished mate .

try not to upset the nannybot in future mate , could be consequences .

 I see you have been to Imaii . liked the fact if you got one in a dark tan plastic , or light tan , that Imaii 's plastic would take stains on the virgin plastic . Tanker - builder .

You have probably answered this question in another thread; however, why do you have wood blocks along the keel? I'm thinking that it's to give the nuts and bolts for the pedestals something to bite on but I sure don't want to assume.....

Looks fantastic!  I too use drafting pencils... good for crisp panel lilnes.

Hi Steve, I have always put a long wood 1x2 with the bottom shaped to fit the hull & epoxy or AC glue it in. It is to take #6 or #8 x 3 1/2 " wood screws to go thru the base & the pedestal & into thr 1x2.   I even did this or something like it when I built wood plank on fraame models. They might be 3" screws. 

I also add wood block along the bottom to receive the mounting pedestals.  Lately I have standardized on lengths of clear acrylic rod as pedestals, 1/2 inch for larger models, 1/4 inch for smaller.  I drill the holes in that block first, then match drill the holes into the piece of wood I intend to use as a base.  I then glue the block to the model, and drill down through the block and through the plastic, to take the lengths of plastic rod when it is time to mount the model.

Thanks Gene! I thought that was the reason but now I know. I think I might have to borrow that idea on my future builds. It probably help anchor the plastic models with the weight.

Steve, you could put a longer piece of 1x2 in the hull, but just plane more off on each end. It would give you more needed weight. I always fit the 1x2 to the hull before I glue it together to see how it fits. I DO NOT glue the 1x2 in to the hull until I glue the halves together.  If you do that it can hold the other half of the hull down if it isn't set right.

   I always mark where I want my screws to go before I put the deck in. It is best to pre drill the screw holes early & maybe even fit it to a temporary base to build on. I just use a 1x3 or 1x4 x8 or 10 inch temp. base with just 2" or 2 1/2" screws . I do that after I have painted the bottom of the hull.
