1/96 USS Constitution - Any Interest?

This is a good example of what it must of looked like.

I should be able to start in about a month. I am waiting on a shipment of parts and also have a few models I would like to finish up first.

By netting do you mean the ratlines? I can't think of any other netting.

   I just saw this thread and yes, Please build it and post it.    There are a bunch of variations of the Constitution over the years. There's never enough Constitutions.

Thanks for responding Dale. I have a little more reasearch that I commited myslf to do before the actual build. I am reviewing all of the files on the USS Constitution Plans by the Naval History Heritage Command. They are more interesting than build-helpful! After dumping Photobucket, I have been on Flicker. You probable have not seen me because I am mostly an air craft guy.

Sailing_Dutch, I certainly think there is room for another Constitution build on this forum. I scheduled to start my build today; not going to happen, yet! But LIVIT invited others on the forum to join his thread. This sounded particularly inviting to me because this will be my first ship in about 60 years and have nothing to offer. I will not be doing a build log, but will be posting to Dales' thread. BTW, I personally asked him if he was agreeable for me doing so before I starting posting to it!

Dutch, You have all the real good ship builders on here that want to see your Constitution. I would love to see ot too. I have an Imai/ Monogram 1/120 Conny I want to build when I finish my Alabama. 

   I also have a big , about 1/96 Mamoli wood Conny that I built 35 years ago that has the Hammock netting over the bulwarks. I did it with a thread diamond shaped material. It does look good. 

To sailing Dutchman and G Morrison,thanks for your reply.Yes that's exactly what I was talking about the u shaped things on the ballwarks-is that right word? I remember putting the rope on these and now matter which way I tried I didnt like it.I saw the netting on a picture of the Constitution plus saw it in Boston when I went through a tour of the ship.I guess I'll try and find some netting somewhere I just think it looks so much better. Consequently I have seen pictures of it on wooden model ships,I might try and talk to a few manufacturers. I'll let you know what I found out.Thanks

Or are you referring to the hammock netting. The statement "front part of the ship" is a little confusing, unless on the ship it's not completely rigged.

Yes, the instructions call for a pair of ropes on each side of the U shaped frames, the "cranes". The real deal would be netting on the diagonal., with a rope along the top.

I have never seen a product made for this, it's a matter of making them.

As everyone else said I would love to see your WIP on this ship. I am on my third,yes, third Constitution.First one got demolished 2/3rds the way through by a basketball and the second one just wasn't turning out the way I like it especially since I joined Gateway model club here in St. Louis,Mo. I learned the right and wrong way of doing things. Does anyone know of a supply house that would have the netting that's on the "real"Constitution on the front part of the ship. The instructions call for a rope on them from front to back one on top and one closer to the bottom. I don't like the way this looks . Has anyone had experience with cloth sails for this ship?Do you like them? or would you rather use the plastic sails?Thanks for any info.

Since all of us have different ways of doing things, we are all interested in new or different ways.  We can all pick up something from a build, be it good or bad when you tell us it didn't work out as expected.  And if you run into a snag, someone here usually has had the same issue, and a solution.

Definitely would like to see them! All of us build in a slightly different way and it's interesting to see how you do certain things.

I have a new build thread, that I hope it to be used like community build and source reference. Please post some pics and any build tips there. I dont want my build to be the only one :)   Dale

I think I speak for everyone here , post picture's , can't wait to see them . it's what this forum is all about . the slight difference's , each modeler does , to each kit .
