1964 USS Maddox - call for help

For plans, you might consider Floating Drudock (http://www.floatingdrydock.com/TFW2.htm) Which might help with the bridge fit (you might have to research Hull numbers to decide which plans to get).  USS J.P.Kennedy might be useful (I want to remember she has Mk33 mounts aboad, up there in Fall River, Mass.)

Capn' - thanks a lot for your input. I have taken a look at those links, pretty interesting stuff. I didn't know this AA system before, looks like it was pretty capable. I have also already found those babies offered in 1/200 at Shapeways - that's a good sign!

The info about the MGs and the director is also very interesting.

Now I have to dig some more to find at least some drawings for the bridge.

Good news there--that's just a heavy steel post just inboard of the railing on (I think) the 03 level about even with the mast.

MGs are only mounted for actual Battle Stations (or, if in a theater of potential conflict, at General quarters, but under an oilcloth cover; so, it would look like a blob on a stick).

I want to remember that there's a page on the net which has the General Arrangement for the 3"/50cal Mk 33, which gives minimum tub dimensions for around those mounts.

Thanks a lot for the info! Your list looks good to me. I was aware of most of the points you mention, but my problem is an absolute lack of drawings here. Like the bridge - I see the photos of how it is supposed to look like, but I'm not sure if I can get it right in the model without any drawings.

"Losing" the gun galleries - I'm nos so sure how this is supposed to look like either.

And I have also heard the Maddox got some 50 cal MG mounts, I don't know where those would be neither.

I was thinking about re-printing the parts vs. painting the built model gray, but since many details are just printed on the parts, re-drawing and re-printing them seems lithe the thing to do.

So if anybody has any drawings of the Maddox or a similar ship I'd like to ask for help here.

The bridge house on a '64 Maddox is enlarged and enclosed,  perhaps the largest change.  Change the pole mast to a tripod mast and change out the radar suite.

Add ESM antennas to the aft stack.  Change the radar on the MK37 to a MK25 dish.

You mention the armament, so you are aware of the 3"/70 replacements for the 40mm BOFORS.  Tubs will need to be adjusted for each of these mounts.   They are a bit larger than the 40 mm mounts.  There is a director structure for the aft twin 3"/70 that you will need to add.

Loose all the 20mm guns and gun galleries.

As lost, the Abele had a quint torpedo bank between the stacks.  Loose that.

The Maddox had just one depth charge track on the starboard side.   Loose the port one.

And you may also be aware - re-print all of the kit hull pieced which are done in camouflage into Haze Gray, with a large shaded hull number.
