Beautiful as always.  I, too, wish they were available in 1/350 (along with American replenishment ships).  I don't build in 1/700, mainly because I'm a completist and would then have to buy all the ships.  Being as I am not a millionaire, I do 1/350 modern only - it keeps my stash under control!

There are now 1/350 scale vessels of all of them now. Look on my youtube channel for Jeff Head and you will see a nice video of the entire CSG for the JMSDF grouping in 1/350 around the JS Kaga CVH -184. Search " Jeff Head" or "1/350 JMSDF CSG around Kage"

I was real proud of finding the all and outfitted the Kage with. 15 F-35Bs on deck.

Jeff,

I follow all your posts. There's always a wealth of information on our ships as well as other Nationalities. Thanks for that.  Your "Builds" are always instructive too; another big Thanks for posting.

You seem to come up with models of ships I never knew were available. 3D printed, resin, or plastic, you seem to find'em. So, for all the kits you purchased over the last year, which are your most frequented online hobby stores?

     Jim.

Hobbie Town, eBay, Lucky Model, Squadron, Hobby Search (in Papan www.199.co.jp), and many others.

...and thank you so much for the kind words.  God's best to you and yours...may the good Lord alwys give you a following wind and fair seas!

Absolutely magnificent work Jeff. I don't think I will go to 1/700, but I will try one. I loved 1/600 but you kids (under 75) can still do super work.

Thank you I still much prefer 1/350 scale.

Here' the two Huygas in a 1/350 scale grouping with the same escorts, but all of them in 1/350th.

You can just get so much more detail on the 1/350th.

Here' the youtube from my channel on you tube showing the Ise and Hyuga with their escorts:

I bought the two SKO Dokdo class LPH in 1/700 scale (like the JMSDF and the Izumo) there is no 1/350 scale model. I am hoping to find a Shapeways 3D builder to provide 1/700 scale KDX-II and KDX-III models so I can get a full CSG for them. I will build them and display them on a thread here,

Well, I already have all of the escorts in 1/350th too...excty the same ones shown here in 1/700th.  So if they put out a 1/350th Izumo I would buy and build two, and one would be the Izumo and the other the Kaga, and then I would buy the 1/350th F-35Bs and make the 2 carrier group in 1/350th come alive.

The detail available on the 1/350th makes them so much nicer and more realistc.

I have 65 1/350th scale modern model ships built, including entrie CSGs for the US, China, Russia, Japan, and the UK (though the last two are centered on the Hyuga, not really a carrier, and the UK on the Illustrious, which no lnger exists), and a 1/400th one for the French, but they didn't even have the newer DDGs for it.

Still they all look good together, and I have a full ARG for the US, and what is available for one for the PLAN too (two Type 71 LPDs).  I wish someone would build the Type 072A LST and I would buy two of those too.

Anyhow, I spent ten years putting that stash together, and spent the last 6-8 years building them all.

Kind of surprised there are no replies.

I was prety amazed at the amount of detail now available in 1/700 models and the difficulty in getting the photo etch detail right...they are so tiny.

Anyhow, all in all I was really satisfied, particularly at the availability of every vessel imagineable.

Just wish the Izumo carrier was available in 1/350 scale as well as the AOR replenishment vessel because I have all the others already in 1/350 scale including the smaller Hyuga class carrier.

If either Izumo class was available, I'd buy to and creat the whole thing in 1/350 scale similar to one video I made using the Hyuga and the same vessels in 1/350th.

I cannot say how critical I believe the Japanese buying the F-35B is, along with the Koreans for their two DFokdos.  Ditton on a 1/350 scale CSG for them of the ships were available.

Here's the link to the Japanese I/350 CSG:

So, there you have it. A complete two carrier strike group from the JMSDF.

With two carriers carryin 20-24 F-35Bs each, a very strong air wing could be deplyed for strike at sea, strong air cover over other task forces, or strike against ground targest as necessary,

I expect if China continues to build more carriers, we will see Japan build perhaps two more themselves. I do nt expect South Korea to go beyond the two Dokdos or Australia to go beyond the two Canberras...or, for that matter, India go beyond the three they plan. They will take a long time to get the thrrd one out.

But Japan definitely could field two more, and the US Navy, with its LHDs and LHAs could at any time turn 2-4 or even 6 of those into escort carriers, particularly f they develop and field the EV-22 and perhaps an SV-22 for ASW wrk.

The US Navy has already been working such goals and procedures into reality with the USS America and some of the LHDs:

USS-America=LHA-06-01.jpg

There are ten F-35Bs there, here are 14:

USS-America=LHA-06-02.jpg

I have seen as many as 16 on the America and 12 now on the Wasp.

The US is working up to use its LHD and LHA vessels as escort or support carriers.

When you consider 4-5 large nuclear carriers, 2 or more escort carriers, and then as many as 6 to nine allied carriers in the Pacific, you end up with a force of nations who regularly exercise together that coudl easily field, between four or five nations as many as 15 carriers very quickly if necessary.

Again, if you get the chance, look at the youtube video below:

Thanks again.

Hope you guys get a chance to read this.

Entire 1/700 JMSDF Carrier Strike Group. Both Izumo class CVH, escorts, and replenishment
Posted by Jeff Head on Saturday, March 23, 2019 10:26 AM

With the announcement that the JMSDF will buy F-35Bs and equip the Izumo class carriers with them, I began a projet a few months ago to build the carrier strike group that is likey to develop from these situations.

This thread is about that.

First, the Izumo class will likely be able to carry from 20 to 24 F-35Bs and an additional six to eiight helicopters or V-22s to cover other missions like SAR, ASW, and AEW. I hope and expect that the Japanese will take another look at the EV-22 that was offered to the Royal Navy and hope they buy it. They would be smart to do so and then make a part of the deal them being able to assist and create some income for other nations who wanted the same option because I believe there would be some if the aircraft were developed with JMSDF help and become available.

Here's a picture of a proposed EV-22. A good deal of though and development has already gone into this aircraft:

EV-22-03.jpg

Such an aircraft would fly higher, have more room for larger electronics and radars, and be able to see and detect threats well further out than any current helicopter solution available.

I expect the Japanese could develop a very dectn income stream if they had a heavy hand in helping finish creating the aircraft. The US would use them on their LHD/LHA vessels. The South Koreans would use them. Australia could use them. India could use them. Spain, Italy, Turkey, Italy, and several other nations who are allied with the US and Japan could make us of them.

I do show the EV-22 on these carriers. I scratch built 1/700 V-22 and added the triangular radar abive the nain wig as shown in the artistists conception of the EV-22.

In building this strike group I had to go with 1/700 class/scale vessels. It is a shame that their are no 1/350 scale Izumo models yet. There is a 1/350 scale Huyga and Ise...but the 1/350 Izum has not come out. When itoes I will already have the group as soon as I complete those two models because I already have the escorts in 1/350 scale.

In this case, my group is made up of the following...and I have to say that the newer 1/700 scale vessels, though small and very tiny to work with, have excellent details for their size and are difficult to build. I bought the aftermarket railing and other details for them and even though small, they all looked good. Here are the vessels:

Note: I re designated the DDH of the Izumo to CVH to represent what they are becoming with this upgrade for the F-35B, which will include ski-jumps for both ships:

1 x CVH-183 Izumo carrier (Izumo Class) by Tamiya
1 x CVH-184 Kaga carrier (Izumo class) full hull version by Hasegawa
1 x DDG-177 Atago AEGIS destroyer (Atago Class) by Aoshima
1 x DDG-174 Kirishimi AEGIS destroyer (Kongo Class) by Hasegawa
1 x DDG-118 Fuyuzuki destroyer (Akizuki class) by Aoshima
1 x DDG 111 Onami destroyer (Takinami class) by Aoshima
1 x SS-515 Soaring Dragon AIP submarine (Soryu class) by Pit - Sky View
1 x AOE-425 Mashu fas replenishment ship (Mashu class) by Aoshima

All of these ships made for nice builds and great ships. Their railing and other sensors and equipment in photo-etch were very tiny indeed. The AOE Mashu was particularly a tough build. But they all came out looking good.

BTW, the Izumo by Tamiya was modeled as the fictitious CVH-192 Ibuki, but was a case of fiction becoming reality.  They added the ski-jump to the model which the Izumo will get and otherwise it ws an Izumo and the original fictitious model did not have one.

Here's how the entire group looks together. Note that the Kaga came in a full hull version, as you can see and I wanted to show the full hull for her. Also the sub, the Soaring Dragon SS-515 the tenth Soryu (out of 15 to be built) is also full hull. (click on the first one for a good length youtube video on my channel for a video of the entire group too):

Here are a couple of more pic of all of the ships together:

JMSDF-CSG-2-Carrier-02.jpg

JMSDF-CSG-2-Carriers-03.jpg

I will show each of the vessels individually on the following pages. Here are the model kit boxes themselves that went into the group:

CSG-Boxes-02.jpg

Now, on with each individual vessel I built. I will not show the entire build sequence as I have done in the past. I built them in similar fashion to the same ships I built in 1/350 scale (most all of which I have done including the Atago, Akizuki, Takanami, Kong, Soryu, etc.)
