Ok I don't know why but Tamiya have split the Hull in an unusual way. Some careful puttying and sanding to come.....Cheers mark

Strange, their original Yamato is a one piece hull,whats the point of splitting it,is there an advantage to doing this ?

Do those T4, T6 etc. brackets support the deck once it is placed on the hull?

There's a review by Tracy White on Internet Modeler. He is quite familiar with the engineering of injection molded kits.

His observation is that the hull is so large with so much complex detail, that casting multiple parts was necessary.

It looks as though you've handled the seam perfectly.

 Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

The only thing I can think of is to get as much Detail into this Area of the Hull.....Cheers mark

There is a Mid Deck to go into the Hull. This supports the full Gun Turret Details belowdecks.....Cheers mark

This is a beautiful model.  I  built the original Tamiya 1/350th Yamato without any aftermarket and that ship looks great as is.  This was a home run from Tamiya.

Have fun with this.

Wonder if they slide molded it and had to break it into 2 pieces.

OK the Hull is now together. I sanded off the Detail on the F/D for the Pontos Part and the fit is perfect. The only draback is all the seams that have to be puttied and sanded if you want her yo be a great Build. Ah well the fun continues.....Cheers mark

Hi;

    Gotta chime in here. First one of these I ever saw was in a hobby shop in Concord, Cal. Although the shop owner assured me it was a regular kit,set up fo the Intended R.C. I almost didn't believe him. No P.E. back then But Migawd whata large model! Almost didn't fit in my Chevette !

After a small Hiatus thanks to work and life she is still alive and growing. Her Hull has been pre-Shaded then Mist coated to allow the underlying Colours to show through. Yamato is now Gloss Coated awaiting some weathering. More to come soon.....Cheers mark

Excellent work. I’m taking notes on how you are painting the hull. It really looks like the weathering will be beautiful.

Hi Mark,

Another fine line of work coming from your bench.  This kit it is quite unique in how its constructed. There sure were a lot of screws in that hull.
