gene1 thank you the dolphins are painted with tamiya gold,the wash is masters touch oil paint then tamiya clear gloss. The name plate I tried the sim. aged wood.

Nino is really right Nick, that is a beautiful model of the Lionfish. I really like your base & how did you paint the white USS Lionfish so clean,& what paint did you use on the base?

     That is one of the best Outta-da-Box builds of the Revell "Lionfish" ever. Your painting skill really did it Justice.  I also really like the stand. Nice work with the gold and and contrasting black wash.

wrapping up the stand, almost done.

The latest pisc after flat clear was applied.

the decals are on and some more rust.. almost ready for clear flat.

sparyed tamiya gloss clear overall , then blacken the vents flat black enamel. I used masters touch oil paint for rust spots some more wathering to do.

placed very detailed deck guns and conning tower stuff, but haveing alot of fun with this kit. This may go to the deep side of the pool.

fixed up the camo. now some clear gloss and weathering.

Did some preshadeing with flat black. Then gave light coats of sea gray ,dark gray and panzer gray need to fix some over spray

most of my childhood was in Conn. a short 45 min drive and your in New London. Outside the sub base there is a conning tower of a gato class sub all in black that at the time you could climb on it... 1965 or so. This is the conning tower not very fancy.

GM many thanks for the correction. my ADD kicks in every now and then no disrespect to sub and crew. I did see the Pampanito in San Fran. most impressive  coldest Aug. day I felt it was a very enjoyable few day's there. This old kit is fun it is what it is gearing up for two more vessels.I do have the 1/144 Trumpeter USS Gato sub lot more accurate model.

You might want to edit the post title from "loin" to "lion", just saying.

It's a nice kit. She was a Balao class, those are rare in the plastic model world as compared to Gato boats. Not a lot of external differences that matter. Pampanito in San Francisco is a Balao, if you get out our way. In fact there's some debate about the fairwater of the kit being a Gato, etc.

Every USN Fleet Boat in WW2 was a little bit different from the next, and they got modified.

Probably the most famous Balao was Tang, a Mare Island boat that was second on the list of tonnage she sank. She sank herself with a circular-run torpedo. But quite a few of the crew survived that.

Like many models, this one is probably a result of the boat being in a museum.

There are all kinds of aftermarket parts available. But the kit builds up well as is.
