Well Hello!

     This is true. Now that the cat is bagless I'll let you know. I have part of a general plan set that I got from Coast Guard Rio Vista some twenty years ago. 

     All they are is plan views of a Point and the ubituqous Cape. I lost the rest about twelve years ago when I moved last. I have a small stash of three Capes in various states of conversion. One is just a Cape with Cut-Away features in all the important areas.

    This is what got me started on this venture.  A Chief Engineman about retire that worked for Clean Bay. The Clean Bay bunch talked me into doing a fully detailed Cape with lift off sections of deck.

     Partially and mainly the Chief's area of responsibility.  Had a blast doing it and thought I would do more. Still trying to figure out how to do the resin one since my allergies flared up.

 I got masks and glasses that seal to my face. Gotta get some Tyvek suits I guess. I actually thought about using my old diving gear for this. Might as well use it for something. I haven't been diving since the second Missus enlisted in the" Angel Corp ".

    P.S. This was just Before they became part of Homeland Security!

Hi; 

       I was refering to both the Lindberg kit and the resin one. I have seen some beautiful yacht Conversions done on both. Now that said, I go for the old fashioned look withlots of Brightwork. As we all knoe Brightwork isn't the brass. It's the Wood Work.

       The older styles do something for me .The " Bubbles" of today, in fiberglass don't stir that feeling. There's just something about Well Crafted wood surfaces enhanced with the touch here and there of Chrome and Brass.

       Besides in Model form it leaves a lot for scratch building beautiful interiors of the main deck cabins. This to me is as much about detailing the houses as putting a fully wired and plumbed engine in a model Car engine bay.

Maybe he's considering converting the Lindberg Cape class into a Point class.  It could be done.  Converting the 95' WPB into a USN PGM would be an easier conversion.  Most of the USN PGM's went to foreign navies.

The Cape class 95' is a flush deck vessel; 95' LOA; 20' beam; 6'4" draft; 3 blade props partly supported by a fixed rudder post.  

The Point class 82' is a raised foc'sle vessel; 82'10 LOA; 17'7" beam; 5'11" draft; 5 blade props.  

Converting the Cape into a Point class would require shortening and narrowing the hull. Either adding the raised foc'sle or cutting away part of the after deck.  The cabin would have to be scratch built.

Where did you find a Point class kit?  The only one I've seen is a 1/700 scale resin offering from TLAR...

There are some civilian Cape class I've seen since I have been reasearching for Linberg's kit. I was going to build one in circa late 70's. I'm sure some Points have also been converted as well.

In fact, the SS Minow remindes me of a Point class Wink

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
