Miniature SMS SEEADLER by Joseph Lavender at 1000 scale.

J

Joseph Lavender submitted his amazing 1000 scale First World German raider SMS SEEADLER on Facebook. This miniature model with a coin as scale, is more than my faiding eyes can construct.

The tall sailing ship SEEADLER was built in 1888 in Glasgow, Scotland as the PASS of BALMAHA under the British flag. In 1916, she was captured by the German sub U-36 and converted to a German commercial raider armed with two 105 mm guns and two torpedo tubes and renamed SEEADLER. Under the command of the legendary Count Felix von Luckner, the raider captured or sank 15 allied ships without the loss of any lives. SEEADLER was eventually wrecked in French Polynesia.

The model is made from boxwood and brass. The base is carved basswood and resin. The rigging is many grades of tungsten wire. The sails are painted tissue paper. The original SEEADLER wore several pain variations to confuse her true identity. The model has a two tone black and white livery as the final choice.

Happy modeling   Crackers   Smile

I think this is the only accurate model of Seeadler I’ve ever seen.

Thanks for posting.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Beautiful!  The base is really great too.  The ratlines were impressive.  Thought at first they were PE, but it sounds like they were wire too, right?

It's work like this that makes me wonder why I try sometimes.

Some people have just an unbelievable talent.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

That's a beauty! Really a wonderful small model!

It would be nice to know how he did it, shrouds and sails in particular!
