Starting to Show Up!

     I had one when I lived in No.Cal. You are right! This thing had to be flown. It's like todays Electronics have caused airlines to re-think training. Now pilots need to fly the Airplane Before they get in the Cockpit. Just in case.

    These sailplanes were the same way. Fly or crash - No other options!.

A year or so ago I went to a garage sale. The folks lived by the Carmel River and their basement had flooded. When the water receded, there was river silt all over everything.

Guy had two 2 meter glider kits that he'd started but never finished, and a little Revell plastic model kit of a glider.

I got the whole batch for $ 20, no electronics.

I talked to John Eaton about these, he explained that they were not easy to fly or learn on.

I kept them in the garage for about a year. Finally, with the silt, some damage and the added cost of electronics; I tossed the two big ones.

 

Some of those glider kits were for expert sailplane pilots.  Their sharp leading edge (small radius) made them stall violently, so you really have to fly then 100% of the time.  I tried starting out in RC with one like that- spun it in first flight and that was my last RC glider!
