Railing for Tamiya 1/350 DD445 Fletcher
Posted by cadman on Friday, December 25, 2020 2:00 PM

Hello, I would like to know if anyone can tell me if there is a PE railing I can use with this 1/350 DD445 Fletcher kit. I do not want to get a full PE kit , just the railing.

Thanks in advance, George

You may be surprised to find the railing alone is just as expensive as a set dedicated to the ship, with railings. At Tom's Modelworks, a railing set is $21. The Tamiya Fletcher set with railings is $20. You may be able to do a couple of products with just the railing fret, but even a few extras like the radar screens make the kit look vastly better, with little effort.

cadman
just the railing.

Looked through Scalemates:  https://www.scalemates.com/search.php?fkSECTION%5B%5D=Kits&q=%22Destroyer+Fletcher-class%22+1%3A350

And did not find any railing only PE.

The closest would probably be to find a generic set of railing from GMM or the like.  But, those will be for kits as large as a battleship, and wind up costing as much as a 'full' Fletcher PE set.

There will also be the issue that Fletchers are best depicted with the mesh fitted from the second rail line down, which runs from bow to the breakwater.  Which is probably not in a generic set.

Yeah, you can find generic US WWII or modern railing. Just look on eBay. There are Chinese companys that make them, decent quality too but nothing just for Fletcher railings.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
