I'd do it. A straight OOB project? For $1500? Why not? That's $1500 more than I usually make building a model.

What about the Eldridge during its tests?  Should be easy, make a peir and just add some fog, maybe with a color light effect.  It could work.

Ok, maybe, just maybe, an OOB Tamiya Fletcher, in Meas 11 (but not in 12 modified)

Ok, a trumpy The Sullivans, OOB would  be "do-able"--but I'd hate ti for all the blobby bits.  (Or, I'd have to show all the AA arament under canvas covers.)  And, for sure in Meas 21.

No, there is no way I could do a job that I would be happy with in 3 days

Not just no, but hail no.

3 16 hour days is 48 hours, is only $25/hr.  Or less than my day job's take home (and by a goodly stretch).  It's 1/7 of my "bill rate" at my job, come to cases (those dollars have to fill a lot of rice bowls, though).

Let's consider a short and simple BB, Oregon, for example (ok, it's not 1/350 per se, but serves as an example).  I'm not sure you could get that 15-17 inch long kit primed, dried, sanded, and finished painted in 3 days, even straight OOB.

Base, stands, and case, too?  De ninguna manera, José,  Estas muy loco.

And, of course, the shorter, earlier BBs are not "simpler" either, to confound and vex.  An RN "Monitor" with only the one turret still winds up with a multitude of smaller guns and assemblies to build up and detail.  Even Dreadnaught, with her simple, clean set up has close to a solid day of nothing but turrets, endless turretes.

I would say "yes" as long as the client understood it's a rush job and the quality won't be perfect.  Painting would be a big challenge for me; that's where I like to spend my time.

OhOh!

Number one - What ship? Number Two - How detailed-? Number three - How Marked and or Painted? A model battleship ,such as LINDBERG'S and REVELL'S Missouri can be built in twelve hours with no Sprue whiskers, No Paint and Kit Decals. Anything more would be pressing it. Never Mind that it's more than you earn in a week. This could totally Burn you out on Models and cause you to have Anger issues! Don't Do It! NO!NO!NO

Scenario("Okay I got your ship done"" Great let's see her" "What! You didn't paint it and put P.E. on it?" "Why"? Well, You wanted it in three evenings, It takes a full evening just to detail the deck" "Well, I don't want that ugly thing in the house, Just keep it for the work you've done!! Bye", Door Slam and a dejected walk to the car---Don't do it!!)

I'd be happy if I finish my Titanic in 3 years!

Curious - what is the reason for the short timespan?  Did they need it for some presentation or film?

Thanks,

John

Depends on the ship, paint job, accuracy and rigging.

At this pace it's no fun at all... But I really need money... and it's a lot of money - more than I make in two weeks.

I don't build ships, but when you break down the amount of the offer, by the number of hours a project like that would take to do a quality job?  Not just no...but hell no!

That would be a LOT of work no matter how you look at it. I would definitely pass.

If the price was guaranteed even with the understanding it would probably look like dreck, then sure.

It would,of course, depend some on which kit was in question, and what standard of finish was expected. But three days isn't much; I suspect that if my reputation -- such as it is -- depended on doing a 'proper' job of it, I'd most likely pass.
