How thick are they? I need to know what size wire to use on the 1/350 carrier.

NTM

The difference between infantrymen and cavalrymen is that cavalrymen die faster for we ride into battle!

4"=25.4 millimeters /350 =0.07257 millimeters. Hopes that helps.

I served aboard the Ranger and Independence in the '70's. I never measured the diameter of an arresting cable but I can tell you that 4 inches is not correct. A more accurate dimension would be around 2 inches and possibly 1 3/4 inches in diameter. To scale, that would be .006 and .005 inches respectively. If you're modeling a WW2 carrier I would guess that the cable would be smaller still.

What about 1/600 cables for something like the USS Forrestal? I have the Airfix kit and am looking at detailing it a bit more.

Good to see someone else who served on board the "Top Gun of the Fleet" I worked on the flight deck and the cross deck pendant and associated arresting gear cables are 1 7/16 " in dia.Smile [:)] This is one on deck after an accident where we lost a Tomcat.
