A more accurate dimension would be around 2 inches and possibly 1 3/4 inches in diameter. To scale, that would be .006 and .005 inches respectively. If you're modeling a WW2 carrier I would guess that the cable would be smaller still.

Good to see someone else who served on board the "Top Gun of the Fleet" I worked on the flight deck and the cross deck pendant and associated arresting gear cables are 1 7/16 " in dia.
This is one on deck after an accident where we lost a Tomcat.
