If you guys want to see another really cool LST, Go to Muskegon, Michigan. They have one that last summer was painted in a dazzle scheme.. probably the only place you can see anything in WWII camouflage. Check out the website www.lst393.org. For an intersting twist you can take the old Lindberg kit and without any modifications make a civilian version of an LST, this was the "Highway 16" and ferried simi's across Lake Michigan decades ago, probably the only chance you will have to put 1950's cars on the deck of an LST!. Bizzare but true. In Muskegon there is also the "Silversides" a WWII sub that you can tour as well as the "Milwaukee Clipper", a former Lake Michigan car ferry that was retired back in 1970. The owners of the "Milwaukee Clipper" also owned the "Highway 16" and used it to carry large trucks that they could not carry on the "Milwaukee Clipper" back in the 1950's & 60's. It is nothing short of remarkable that this two ship fleet that has not seen a paying passenger for over 35 years is stiill intact! All three of these museums are run by different organizations.

Lindberg also made an LST: believe it was 1/245? It was re-released a few years ago, and I've still seen a few in stores, on the internet, and on eBay. It was originally motorized, so it could stand some detailing.

I wish I had that for my backyard. When I lived in Duluth we would get the USS Des Moines every so often. I wanted to see carriers and other cool stuff too but they don't fit under the Ariel Lift Bridge. I don't think they'd fit through the locks either. Nothing looks better in the Duluth Harbor than a big Navy ship.

Pitroad/Skywave does one in 1/700 scale too. Pretty good kit with some good detail molded in. I built it some years ago. A 1/72 scale one would definitely be interesting!Imagine the diorama possibilities! Wink [;)]Cool [8D]

Amazing! My dad was a 40 mm gunner on LST 466 in WWII before he went on to destroyers. I can just picture him in that gun tub on the bow (his battle station) with the ship sipped up on the beach at Guadalcanal. Thanks for the great shots!

Who makes a good LST kit?

I live in Alexandria, VA (Old Town) on the Potomac. LST-325 is here for the weekend. She's making a tour of the east coast this summer.
