Are the life rafts the canisters stuck to the sides of modern ships? I've seen a lot of them lately in FSM with the Nimitz review and the 1/96 scale Missouri in this month's FSM.

Regards,

I'm sure you are talking about the modernized New Jersey, in which case the instructions on the GMM sheet are correct. You actually aren't painting the life rafts, there is a tarp placed over them, which is black/very dark grey in real life.

Jeff is right if everything was painted at the same time. I have seen photos of the rafts on camouflaged ships all being one gray color regardless of where they are on the ship, because they were probably all serviced/stocked/repainted at the same time, on a day when the bosun was looking for make work for the deck gang. So maybe either way is correct.

Thanks Jeff, That is how I had things until I looked at the instruction sheet from Gold Metal.

The life rafts should match whatever the color on the bulkhead is...if the bulkhead is haze gray, then the rafts are haze gray...if a demarcation line runs directly through a life raft, then that line carries over onto the raft.

What should the color of the life rafts be? The photo etch is showing the fronts are black with a haze gray back. Is this correct?
