I-Go Japanese submarines
Posted by In The Woods on Sunday, August 28, 2005 8:08 PM
Which companies manufacture I-boat models, and which publishers have some detailed references on them? I'd like to start small with a plastic kit, and then move on to scratch-building an I-Go class boat in larger scale. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With best regards to all,

Steve,

With the exception of the smaller coastal boats which received an HA- designation, all IJN subs were I-boats. The designation is similar to the SS- system we used on USN boats, it carried across classes.

Well, I'm learning more about this as I go. I was fascinated by the size of some of the I-boats, especially the looooonng monsters that I've seen some photos of. Anyway, I got some information to get me started, and I am sure that I'll get some more.

I was hoping that there would be some more material out there, and I was rewarded. I am interested in some of the less-well-publicized aspects of WW II; the Russians and the Japanese are my cup of tea.

Thanks to all who replied (or are going to.)

With best regards to all.
