I second what paulnchamp said, Vermont. I used to build primarily in 1:350, but after a long layoff from building, I decided to get back into it "easy" by building a 1:700 Scharnhorst. I even fitted it out with a P/E set. I got my eyes tested about 5 years ago, and I had 20/15 vision. I don't think it is that good anymore because I had to get an OptiVisor magnifyer. Just couldn't see to do the small details anymore. But, the OptiVisor made all the difference. The Scharnhorst is coming out real nice, but it's back to 1:350 scale for me after this project. I know what you mean about the right grey for the scale. I painted the Scharnhorst's hull and superstructure in Model Masters Camouflge grey and Gull Grey flat enamels. The paint job came out nice, but seems a bit too "bright" to me, even though it is painted in flat colors. I've been trying to find a way to tone it down a bit without ruining the paint job. Maybe a light application of Dulcoat ? I didn't know that acrylics went down "flatter". I'll have to check it out.

You'll also need a good magnifying glass, Vermont! I built many a 1/700 ship in my younger days, but now that I'm in bifocals I've had to move up to 1/350Sleepy [|)]

For something that small, use water based paint they dry flatter. You airbrush it but then accent it with a very small brush.

Wow,this has got to be the SMALLEST model I have ever built.I got this kit of the USS John Rodgers destroyer from my girlfriends uncle to build for him.He was on the ship for awhile.

I could use some tips on painting this thing so i don't overload it and hide details.

open for suggestions...I am primarily a spray can painter but have a new airbrush.
