It was fun doing it, got to be a little more on the Artsy side after a while, but I will admit it was fun.  I did purchase a 1/700 scale PE set and when it came in the mail i just laughed.  Its still sitting in the bag it came in.

The carrier wasn't too bad at the 1/700 level, but the cruiser was a pain.  It definitely gives me more admiration for the guys doing the wooden ships and tying all the masts.

The 1/350 trumpeter USS Yorktown it the ultimate end to the water dio project.  I am thinking of starting it in the fall/winter.  I think it will take a substantial amount of time, we will see.

Thanks again,

Thank you for the comments.  I took a few close ups last night and will try to get them on the link tonight.  I also have the jets for the deck that came in about 6 weeks ago, but with the weather getting nice my modeling time has gotten pretty slim.  Decals, yes a pain, the trumpeter set that came with the kit fell apart when i was putting them on.  I am surprised it came out as well as they did.  I know they are too close, but i want to do a 1/350 scale water dio in the next year or two and wanted to get as much practice as i could on the 1/700 scale.  I thought the russian ships would be fun because they are so different.

Thanks again, and i will try to get those pictures update this evening.

Good Job.  I have never tried a 1:700 kit, and although your look great I get the feeling from the dialogue that they can be difficult.  You'll have to keep us updated with your 1:350 diaroma.

Nice job on the decals on that carrier deck. I've learned with the updated USS Enterprise I'm currently working on that getting decals to lay down in long, straight lines is sometimes even harder than masking off and painting the bootstripe. I millimeter here or there and suddenly everything on the flight deck looks a little funky ...

I like the dio, but you need to zoom in and show the details. Sometimes it reminded me of the 1/2400 scale from GHQ. But they look nice.

Spacing is too close, but it still looks good.

Very nice, paintchips! I look forward to the closeups.

I find 1/700 scale awfully hard, too: splayed fingertips from a lifetime of keyboarding (typewriters, computers and keyboard instruments) means tweezers-only building.

i agree completely on the spacing, but there is only so big i can make the base, unfortunately.  Its as biggest i could go with it still fitting in the model case.

I will add some close up of the carrier within the next few days.

Thanks for posting.  its appreciated.

Looks pretty neat but you need to hit the zoom on that camera.  I really wanted a closeup of that carrier.  The water looks good but i doubt capital ships would ever be that close except maybe during onreps.  Pretty impressive.

3 russian ship water dio with link to pics

Hey everyone,

Here is my first shot at a water dio.  its of three russian ships in the 1/700 scale which i will never do again.  the parts are too small and my hands are way to big.  I used a liquitex light model paste, hairdryer, and a few different sized brushes.  That coating with about 2-3 different shades of blue with light grey and white dry brushing.

Let me know what you think and thank you for your opinions.

Thanks,
Paintchips
