Revell-Monogram says
The Gato class of submarine was the state of the art in American design at the start of World War II and bore the brunt of the fighting against Japan during the war. They were fast, strong, heavily armed and well-suited to the long range patrols necessary in the Pacific. They were generally over 300 feet in length, which means our new Revell 1:72 scale kit will be roughly 52 inches in length! While still being tooled, you can expect a massive, world-class model replica with at least 250 to 300 parts. Expected release date will be November '06. |
05047 American Submarine GATO-class
GATO Class: Enormous Range and Heavy Armament
The GATO class submarines were one of the most successful weapons systems of the U.S. Navy during WW II.
In addition to its long range and seaworthiness it was principally characterised by its heavy armament: 10 torpedo tubes, a 12.7 cm gun and a 4 cm flak anti-aircraft gun.
