I visitd the ship back in 2005, the capstan as you know when down at least 2 decks and the bars to turn the massive capstan were stowed in the underside of the top deck in a metal rail just forward of the capstan.

BUMP.................................................back to the top. Surely someone visited the Constitution and noticed where the bars were stowed ?

Where are the capstan bars stowed when not in use? Below decks or is there a storage rack on deck somewhere? If anyone can shed some light (or even a photo Big Smile [:D]) I would be most obliged.

Julian (weathering away on the Constitution with great trepidation)
