1. What scale would be the best for this? I mostly do 1/48 scale armor and aircraft and have never really attempted a ship. Also, do you recommend a certain kit that I can convert to this specific ship?

In 1:350 scale,  Dannen Scannell of the Resin Shipyard/Hawk Graphics decals makes a HMCS Kootenay -- a Royal Navy River-class frigate.   It is a re-release of the old Armada HMS Decoy kit.

In 1:700 scale, White Ensign makes a Black Swan sloop which could be the basis for a conversion

Well I really like the story, sounds really bold and daring.

As for one of your questions, you could use the 1/700 scale, as that scale includes a very large selection of Cruisers, Battle Ships, and Carriers of the such icluding U-boats.

But on my preference, I would choose the 1/350 scale. Then again that scale is rather limited, especially for the U-boats.

So the ideal course of action is that you should use the 1/700 scale as a resort. Ask me more if need.

Hey all! I've recently stumbled into the wonderful world of scale modelling and have been loving every second of it.

The other day I was at my Grandfather's house and I saw an old photograph of a old ww2 frigate, the HMCS Swansea.

He told me this story about how his great grandfather had commanded the ship and how at one point during the war had run accross a German u-boat and being out of ammo, proceeded to ram the sub. The sub was sinking and the Swasea braved the possibility of a torpedo from a another sub and rescued the survivors.

This really inspired me to make a diorama of this event, but I can't for the life of me find any good reference photos or accounting s of this event... So I have a few questions.

1. What scale would be the best for this? I mostly do 1/48 scale armor and aircraft and have never really attempted a ship. Also, do you recommend a certain kit that I can convert to this specific ship?

2. Anybody know of a good site for refrences of ships? Or even specifically of this ship?

 Here's a pic of it:

Thanks for looking!!
