Good luck with your project.  I think it would look nice in the smaller scale.

I've thought about doing a length-wise cut away using the large 1/96 Revell kit, showing all the decks, but have too many other projects in the queue right now to take anything on like that right now.

Just don't use the pre-built model in your link as a reference - most of the details are grossly inaccurate.   The Mamoli cut-away kit, although not perfect, would be a better reference to follow.

i have the cross-section model and hope to get started on it by the end of the summer. just thinking but is the model plank on frame or plank on bulkhead. if it is plank on bulkhead you will have to fill in all the frames. if its a plank on frame hell, build the entire hull and cut it in thirds and have a cross-section model for each mast.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think he'll be using a plastic kit.

saw verrrry slowly.

you're probably right. my club www.rkymtnshipwrights.org (rocky mountain shipwrights) builds almost exclusively in wood so when i think of a sailing ship model i am thinking along those lines.
