scorpr, according to the waterproof "Modern Naval Power" poster in my bathroom, the Typhoon Class submarine was origined in Russia 1978. I think that's the answer to your question.

BTW, lately I saw another 1:350 Typhoon from Alanger and it's newer than this one, equipped with protection tubes for the propellers. I'll order one soon.

 I think Russian Navy had 6 or 7 of Typhoon subs back in 80s. After Soviet Union fall apart they scrapped all of them exept 2. Those where put in reserve for future possible modernization.

Being an ultimate "weapon of revenge" in case of Global Nuclear War, those subs kinda lost actuality nowdays.
