mirage hobby 4 stacker destroyers

Haven't seen anything on these kits, so thought I'd throw in my "2 cents". I built the U.S.S. Ward. Not a bad little kit with the addition of some railings from Tom's modelworks. Many very small detail parts (too many for these old eyes) and problems getting them off the sprues 'cause the plastic is somewhat brittle, but to the best of my knowledge, nobody has done a "4 stacker" since Revell sometime in the '50's. They offer 4 or so different versions including the one captured by the Japanese and converted into a patrol craft, and one carrying a Curtis seaplane. For under $20, they ain't bad in my opinion !

See my quick in the box review from back on 04AUG which includes pictures.

Mirage's planned release of the IJN patrol version of the ship (ex USS Stewart) as well as a APD version are still in the works.  When is anyone's guess.  Mirage has been brutally closed mouth about these kits, having taken 4 years to bring the first into production.  Of interest are the Flower-class corvettes which are also shown on the box.

Squadron lists the four Mirage flush-deckers as being on sale in their October sales flier.

I've been slowly working through the USS Noa (AVD - sea plane tender version).  There are a number of injector pin marks which need to be addressed, especially once the bridge windows are opened.   I'm also dealing with a fit problem at the midships deckhouse.   There are few locating pins & holes so I had major alignment issues with the running gear.  All that ended up being stripped off and the hull cut down to waterline.   These are definatly not for a novice ship modeler.

Agreed, not for the novice, but at least they are kits that have not previously been available.

Thanks, guys!  I had not heard of this kit.  I've always loved destroyers, and the four-stackers have always interested me. I've been thinking about a four-stacker, even searching the Squadron shop online (right after I get done with the 5 different projects waiting in line.....)
