1/350 Detail sets?

Understood. Then I'll go for the GMM PE and look into adding some more doors in some decades :)

If you were to get both of those sets, you have the potential for creating a very beautiful model. But, I agree that, since this is your first attempt at photoetch, take it slowly and carefully. As for directions, the GMM instructions are excellent and easy to follow. That is why I recommended GMM to you. First, their overall quality cannot be matched; second, they are relatively easy for the beginner.  Good luck!

Huxy, as far as the watertight doors, at that scale ... I don't know of those are molded on to the model you have or notm but, in general, PE watertight doors tend to look more three-dimensional and realistic. However, since this is your first dive into photoetch, you might want to take it a little at a time. You can always add the watertight doors later if you decide to.

As far as instructions go, again, Gold Medal Model instructions are legendary for being thorough, easy to understand and, in general, a Godsend in figuring out what goes where. There will be absolutely no guesswork involved.

So if I get the two following PE sets, am I then good to go?

WEM 1/350 Kriegsmarine Portholes & Doors

And the GMM Bismarck/Tirpitz set 

Do these PE sets include any instructions or is it one of those "figure-it-out-yourself" kits? :)

Unfortunately, the Tamiya kits also have very bare bulkheads as far as watertight doors and portholes with their "eyebrows" are concerned. The Revell Bismarck in 1/350 scale is much superior in this regard. Should you wish that level of detail, you will need to get PE for those as well.

I agree with an earlier posting . . . I have never gone wrong with Gold Medal Models photoetch.

The GMM set includes all the railing you will need for one model, as well as radars and other small details. It does not include watertight doors or eyebrows and portholes.

Which is better?   Well its like that old question, which of your children do you love the most?  They are both excellent.  Many modelers choose to mix-n-match.

Also, Gold Medal Models produces an excellent set.  Although not in the UK, you could get this set from www.steelnavy.com or www.modelwarships.com.
