Finally got around to building this. I bought very "dirty" kit on EBAY and was determined to put it right. I used bare metal foil for top panels. I changed the engine turbines. I used alum. tube for pitot tube. Very exciting time in space/testing during this time. The whole base basically stopped when the shuttle was first released from 747. I painted over the American Airlines on fuselage, to get the proper affect. It is very faint.
Very nice sbemo!
I've always wanted to build that kit.
I recently watched "Discovery's Last Mission" on Netflix, and wanted to replicate it's last flight from Kennedy to Dulles, weathering and all.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Dats nice looking !
Looks great! I've been eyeing this kit for a little bit now. How does it go together?

It is vintage 70s kit. Neither model goes together well. I think they have better versions of 1/144 747 and shuttle. Thank You
Looks great! I have the kit in my stash, and also want to depict the carrier aircraft in its original livery. I saw the prototype when it visited St. Louis in '79, and still have the color pictures of it both in flyby and on ground. Also got to tour the carrier aircraft.

Thank you, Don, You should build this or newer tooling. Go Vikes! (sry been a fan since 1970)

Sbemo...you did an awesome job on this.
Awesome job ! I have seen the newer kit in my lhs but am still on the fence about picking it up. I like how you did the paint over on the ex American name.
Nice, mate.....very nice.

Here are a couple of reference photos I took when Enterprise and the carrier visited St. Louis in the mid 70s.
I have the Revell kit and hope to have it on my bench soon.
Gotta appreciate the skill it took to fly that piggyback arrangement.
I take it you wouldn't want to perform any evasive manuvers flying this.
Cheers, Mate
