The future of Future?
Posted by Phantom Fan on Monday, November 3, 2014 8:14 PM

After more than 10 years, my faithful bottle of Future is just about done. What little remains is too viscous to use anymore, so I have to get a new bottle, but can't find one anywhere. I know its name has changed in recent years, from Pledge with Future Shine, to Pledge Floor Care Multi Surface Finish, and looking on the Pledge website, I see something called Pledge Floor Care Finish (different looking bottle that the PFC Multi Surface Finish, but promises an acrylic coat, so I guess it's the same), but I can't find any of the above in local stores (I live in Philadelphia, PA, not exactly a small market). Anyone around my area know where I can find a bottle? Is there any alternative to Future, or PFC, or whatever the devil they're calling it this week? Given the overall poor consumer ratings I've seen for the stuff (obviously not from us scale modelers),  an alternative may be useful in the future (no pun intended) if Pledge stops making it.

Last time (about 9 months ago) I bought some was at Walmart.

It was in an area close to the mop section.

I'll bet you can get it on Amazon.

I've seen a few references that LA's Totally Awesome Mop n Shine is about the same thing. I've not used it on a model but I have my doubts. Its milky looking not clear. It has a different odor. It has a different feel, Future was more "slippery" feeling. I can personally testify it DOES NOT make the floor as shinny as Future.

yup, go to Amazon, search in "all departments" for

SC Johnson Pledge Floor Care Multi-Surface Finish 27 OZ

The product photo will have the Blue Boots on the label. that is the stuff that replaces Future.

any other photo or any product that says cleaner in the name is not the same stuff, and some of the wrong ones are for wooden floors

I found some Future at a Giant Super Market a couple months ago - just over the border from Philly in Delaware (any Giant stores in Philly?). It was a bit difficult to find though, was on a bottom shelf among other floor care products and not easily spotted. And, ditto what mitsdude posted - I've seen it in our local Wal Mart Superstore and, yes, Rex is right, Amazon does carry it.

This is the new stuff.

yup, it is $11.40 on Amazon, with free shipping or + shipping, depending on how many items you buy

there are 36 companies listed that are selling it

I bought 3 bottles of SC Johnson PFM at a Giant Supermarket in Feb 2013.  So far I've used about 1/20 of one bottle.  I doubt I'll ever need to buy Future or PFM.

Just an FYI to what I posted above. I visited 3 Walmarts today and checked for Future. Despite what I said above I didn't find it at any of them. Don't know if they were out or have stopped caring it. If I recall correctly it does seem to come and go at Walmart.

No, I didn't go to check for the Future but for discounted Halloween stuff. They had several flavors of lighted items that contained LED's. The best ones were balloons that had LED's inside.

Update -  Since I work two jobs, I asked my secretary (i.e., mom) if she could call the customer service number at Johnson & ask where I could find some of the stuff since I was having such a hard time finding any. Well,  wouldn't you know that they sent me a free bottle that arrived today, along with some coupons! Here's to another 10 years of model building with our "secret weapon!"
