I place my models on what looks like asphalt pavement before I photograph them.
I purchased a foam core board with black foam and paper. I removed the paper and then applied some paint to the foam. Click on this link to see how it is done.

Oh I like that, better than the cardboard I use. What scale is that? (sorry I didn't look at the link if it was in there)

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

The board in 20"x30". The plane is 1/48 scale. The most difficult part of making the board is removing the face paper.
Looks good. I might suggest a gray concrete color for aircraft ramps though. Concrete for airfields is more common than asphalt.
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

One more thing. I glued the foam board to plywood. The foam board warped after is was painted.

That would be great Bish. I really need to work on my concrete.
Here is the link. I have only tried this once so far, on a Do 24 base. Most of mine aircrfat are on grass fields. I only used the painting part, which starts about a third of the way down. First time out i got a result that i was really pleased with and far better than my previous ones.

Thank you Bish. between your link and the OP's process I can't lose! Your Do 24 base was superb .
Now I can't wait to give it a try...wait, that means I won't be using water

Your welcome. But who says you can't.
Just sayin
well there you have it. Problem solved.
Some small civil airports do have asphalt ramps, so an asphalt ramp is not completely out of the question.

While that may be true but not on Military bases.
