Silly putty

Great advice Greg! I know I could have used it many times!

As a PITA/KIAOG (pain-in-the-***/know-it-all-old-guy) I've learned---the hard way---to spot-check all my masking, of any type, before pulling that AB trigger. Saves a lot of muttering under the breath and head-shaking---which at my age, might shake something loose....

But seriously, even the best-behaved tape or putty can lift or pull back at that inconvenient spot. A quick once-over---a 'pre-flight check,' if you will---can prevent a lot of frustration.

JP, That's interesting. I've never seen Silly Putty move from where I put it, but I don't use it if I need a precise line. I just pull out the Tamiya masking tape for those. I'd be nervous about using a razor blade next to the model for fear of scratching the plastic. Barrett

Well, when I mask, the Putty moves back over what I am trying to paint. I use a razor blade to burnish the Putty below raised details I am trying to paint.

Not sure what you mean...I've used Silly Putty several times to mask camo on 1/48 jets and I've never had any problems.

When you say "use a razor blade" what exactly do you mean?  I wouldn't ever use a razor to cut the putty once its on the model...if that's what you meant.
