QUOTE: i have an enclosed room for my model room whats the best way to venelate it?

QUOTE: i have no windowws in my basement.

The problem that we have to address is NOT what type of fan to use but how to get the fumes out of an ENCLOSED, WINDOWLESS BASEMENT! There is a possibility that you could use the stand pipe OR a dryer vent OR a tube up the stairs. Does any one live near Juniormodeler? I don't know if this is his(her) house an apartment or his(her) parents house. If I knew the layout of the home I might be able to give a better suggestion.Maybe if one of us could go there we could help.

I think that a bathroom vent would work better than a range hood. A bathroom vent is already pretty powerful (more than a range hood). So that should be enough for you. You might have to put 2 in, but I think that would be the best way to go.

Maybe if you use the previous hood idea but use a really long hose and run it up the stairs and out a door or window? Just coil it up when not in use.

You could try this...

I am in the same boat you are. I am in the garage and it's gets too cold and rainy to do much outside painting (I live in Seattle) so this looks like a pretty good alternative. I am in the process of building up one myself. We'll see how it goes I guess.

I'm with unnamed player... gotta move to a ventilated room, bro. Either that or fry your brain on paint fumes. Not worth it, kemosabe.

Oops, my bad. But IF you had a window, all that other stuff would work {:)}

Does your modelling room have a window? You might try replaceing one pane with plexiglass. You can affix a dryer end vent on the plexiglass, add the plexiglass back into the frame and then hook up whatever fan source you're using to that. One of my modelling buddies has two setups like that and it works just fine. He has one window with two outside end vents in place joined with a t-connector; one draws outside air in, the other vents to the outside. Materials aren't expensive, and it should only take a short time to do. -Ed

Well, you sound like the perfect candidate for one of those water filter buckets. Of course, first you'd have to build a spray booth of some sort and then run the hose to the water filter. I don't remember where the thread is but there is a topic discussing this somewhere either in *Techniques* or *General Discussion*. Look for threads concerning paint booths or exhaust fans. If I run across it I'll post a link.

If your dryer is in the basement you could get a range hood that has a 4" (same size as dryer) vent connection and tee it into the dryer vent. you would NEED dampers to prevent hot air entering your modeling room or paint entering the dryer.

Belay that! NOT one of my brighter ideas! Solvent/paint fumes could enter the dryer and cause an explosion or serious fire.

But you stillcould stilluse a range hood with a 4" vent connection. Just find a different wat to get it outside.

Paint at someone elses house! Seriously, open a window, use a floor fan to redirect the fumes, use a paint booth with an outsite connection; anything that keeps you out ot he ER from solvent toxicity. - Ed

You can always use a fan to ventilate the room but really all you're doing is spreading the joy throughout the rest of the basement. Can you install a dryer vent in the wall of the room leading outside?

I work in the basement and have a couple of fans blowing air around the room.

Is your modelling room located on an outside wall or near to a room that has a window?
