Squadron putty
Posted by Daytripper on Sunday, April 3, 2005 12:31 PM
Hi
I've been using "Squadron green putty" recently but i am finding it a little to coarse for my current needs. Has anyone had any success in thinning it out
and if so what medium was used to accomplish this? Failing that can anyone recomend any substitute ?

Thx DT

I use fingernail polish remover or lacquer thinner. Alot of other people use denatured alcohol. I've tried alot of other fillers but I always come back to squadron green putty. Try putting it on un-thinned then when it's partially dry smooth it out with a q-tip soaked in fingernail polish remover. See this article:

I thin with liquid cement. It thins the putty great and also slightly bonds the seam. When ever possible, mask the seam with tape.

Switch to Squadron White - it has a finer grain. Also consider adding Mr Surfacer to your tool chest. Acetone based fingernail polish remover is great for thinning and smoothing Squadron putties.
