Squadron putty

I thin squadron green & white putty with acetone. it works great for me.

Switch to Squadron White - it has a finer grain. Also consider adding Mr Surfacer to your tool chest. Acetone based fingernail polish remover is great for thinning and smoothing Squadron putties.

I thin with liquid cement. It thins the putty great and also slightly bonds the seam. When ever possible, mask the seam with tape.

I use fingernail polish remover or lacquer thinner. Alot of other people use denatured alcohol. I've tried alot of other fillers but I always come back to squadron green putty. Try putting it on un-thinned then when it's partially dry smooth it out with a q-tip soaked in fingernail polish remover. See this article:
