Back Scribing
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 10:31 PM
Do you guys remove the spurge lines on your roadwheels before fixing them together?
I hope I've phrased my question correctly. Big Smile [:D]Blush [:I]

Sorry, I'm afraid you haven't. Confused [%-)]
What do you mean by "spurge lines?" Are you referring to mold separation lines, which appear on parts where the two halves of the mold come together?
If so, then, yes, I do remove them.
But you should check references of the vehicle you are building: I've seen pix of real Sherman roadwheels with that exact line on the tires!

Also, what do you mean by "back scribing," as stated in the title of your post?

hmm... thanks J-Hulk. Yes i was refering to the mold separation lines. What I meant by back scribing would be to use a craft knife and scribing off the lines using the side of the blade. That's how I call it... back scribing.. haha.. sorry if this question is rather confusing.

I call that scraping, not scribing, but sure that's an easy way to remove the mold separation lines. Finish up with a light sanding.

OK, I gotcha!
I guess we all kind of develop our own vocubulary along the way.

In general, however, the English word "scribing" indicates an action that LEAVES a line, not removes one.

Also, where the heck did you even get the word "spurge?" Wink [;)]
